STARBASE Maxwell opened its doors to the Montgomery Public School system in 2004. We are a Department of Defense initiated/funded program designed to inspire and “ignite” student’s interest in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) career.
The program targets 5th grade students from Autauga, Elmore and Montgomery County Public Schools and Maxwell Elementary. To date, the program has provided 25 hours of stimulating experiences for over 7,600 students from 270 classes in the tri-county area; each receiving detailed instruction from a specific curriculum aligned with National STEM standards.
The Montgomery Education Foundation (MEF), our non-profit sponsoring organization, was founded in 2000 as a program of the Central Alabama Community Foundation. MEF provides advocacy and support for access to high quality education and believes all children deserve a quality education. MEF provides rich opportunities by leveraging community resources, volunteers and research-based practices.
